Hurricane Harvey strengthens to category 3, threatens record flooding in Texas

Harvey became a Category 3 hurricane, the third most powerful, the National Hurricane Center said on Friday. Forecasters said the storm would hit land near Corpus Christi, Texas, around 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. CDT (0100-0200 GMT), dropping over three feet of rain in some areas along the central Texas coast, and potentially loop back over the Gulf of Mexico before hitting Houston.

Search for five missing Army helicopter crew suspended in Hawaii

Officials have suspended the search for five Army soldiers who were aboard a helicopter that crashed during offshore training in Hawaii last week.

Army and Coast Guard officials on Monday notified the families of the missing soldiers that they were ending the search and rescue operation, said Maj. Gen. Christopher Cavoli, commander of the 25th Infantry Division.

The Army identified the missing soldiers as 1st Lt. Kathryn M. Bailey, 26, of Hope Mills, North Carolina; Chief Warrant Officer 3 Brian M. Woeber, 41, of Decatur, Alabama; Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stephen T. Cantrell, 32, of Wichita Falls, Texas; Staff Sgt. Abigail R. Milam, 33, of Jenkins, Kentucky; and Sgt. Michael L. Nelson, 30, of Antioch, Tennessee.

Trump on Charlottesville brawls: “There is no place for this kind of violence”

Following heated protests on Friday night where 15 were injured, protests became more violent on Saturday with one person killed and 19 injured after a car drove into a crowd of counter-protesters. Since then Trump has been criticized for his tepid response to the heart of the problem because he didn’t condemn the white nationalists for creating the violent climate. The Governor of Virginia issued a state of emergency following the death of one protester and said the “Unite the Right” protest was an illegal protest because they didn’t seek a permit.
