Moms deserve a special day all to themselves. Being a mom myself, I am probably biased, but… I believe that being a mother is the most difficult thing a woman can do & the accomplishment is something to be celebrated!
The origins of Mother’s Day have roots in the 1600s. Mothering Day as it was called in England, became an especially compassionate holiday toward the working class women. On the Sunday of Lent, servants and trade workers were allowed to travel back to their towns of origin to visit their families. Mothering Day also provided a one-day reprieve from the fasting and penance of Lent so that families across England could enjoy a sumptuous family feast—Mother was the guest of honor. Mothers were presented with cakes and flowers, as well as a visit from their beloved and distant children.

susank writes ""We are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist,
Using technologies that haven’t been invented,
In order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet."

- Karl Fisch, Educator and author of "Did You Know"

When we grew up, the employment rate was fairly stable.  Our greatest concern was having to compete against a few "local" job applicants to get a "good" job.

Our children, however, will face new challenges. "

Government Fights Obesity In Schools

Millions of school meals offered across the country are set to become healthier as the Department of Agriculture (USDA) fights to curb the growing obesity epidemic. There are new standards and guidelines being set which should influence and affect millions of children countrywide. Despite the introduction of double the vegetables and fruit on offer, the USDA has not removed French fries from ANY school menu, even though itís known these are amongst the most damaging foods available.

susank writes "Our first home as young newlyweds was a small bungalow built in 1942.  We purchased the house in the month of August, many months before we discovered the drafty windows.  As the Michigan winter rushed in, it literally rushed right through our house.  Day after day.  Month after month.  Winter after winter.

It took a few years, but we finally saved enough money to buy new windows... five-thousand dollars!  The windows were installed one summer and we looked forward to FINALLY being warm as winter approached.
